MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Greetings, everyone
Have you heard about Blursday? It’s a reference to how we feel when this pandemic distorts our sense of time.
Being disconnected from each other and our normal routine can make each day feel like the next, so we sometimes forget what day it is, as they all blur together. It must be Blursday! I just want to let you know that the slight delay with Happenings this week is not the fault of its beloved editor. Your minister had a Blursday day moment and somehow turned two days into three in his mind.
We all might be feeling like we could use a little help. In fact, I’m writing because your church could use your help right now. We’re looking for a couple of people to serve on a committee that will complete its work in the next 6 weeks. (A short-term gig!) We’re putting together a small group (5 perhaps) to look at how we merge our current Council and Board into a leadership team that best suits our needs and our shared ministries. After a bit of restructuring work, this committee will then take care of nominations, filling each position, and presenting those names at our upcoming Annual Congregational Meeting.
If you would like to be part of this work, and feel you have some experience with the leadership of our congregation, or some insight into how we can bring our new Lakeshore Trinity United congregation together, please get in touch with one of the following:
Dale Palin 514-943-4613 palin@rppr.com
Mark Watson 514-633-0635 watsonm@selwyn.ca
Rev Steve 514-235-9383 macduffsdad@hotmail.com
Please consider this over the next couple of days. We have scheduled our first zoom meeting for this coming Tuesday, January 25th.
If you aren’t feeling called to this work, please help in one of these other ways:
We will be starting nominations soon. A list of positions will be posted in a couple of weeks. Is there some way you would like to serve in the leadership of our new congregation?
Do you have any suggestions as we look at restructuring/merging our Board and Council?
Continue to pray for our congregation in this exciting time as together we learn how we can best live the gospel in our time and place.
Thanks. Blessings, everyone. Stay well. Keep warm. And beware of Blursday.
Peace.
Rev. Steve

END THE PANDEMIC EVERYWHERE
A GLOBAL CALL FOR VACCINE EQUITY
Citizens and community leaders around the world are calling on world governments to act to end the pandemic – billboards across France, ads on the London Underground, media profiles in the US, notices on the sides of buses in Nigerian cities- all are calling for an end to global vaccine inequality.
So many of us have benefitted from these life-saving vaccines. But as long as proprietary vaccine patents prevent the manufacture and distribution of vaccines in countries around the world, virus variants will emerge and the pandemic will persist. Astra Zeneca has already reached a ground-breaking vaccine agreement with South Africa. Public pressure could help to push other Pharma vaccine producers to do the same.
The United Church of Canada has issued a Call for Action, calling on the Canadian government to share excess vaccines, allocate more funds to COVAX, increase Official Development Assistance, and suspend the international agreement on property rights to allow vaccines to be produced more quickly and affordably around the world. For more information on what we can do, follow the link: https://united-church.ca/social-action/act-now/call-global-vaccine-access-all
Let us bring an end to new variants, restrictions, and economic disruptions. Let us contribute to world-wide recovery. Millions in low-income countries are being left behind and health systems are under great strain everywhere. Raising our voices will help end the pandemic and help build a stronger, safer and healthier future for all.

WE GIVE THANKS
The e-transfer protocol is outlined in the Happenings email.
Don’t forget to include your envelope number and indicate how you wish to have your offering divided. If not indicated, it will be designated as local offering.
For the month of January 2022: Everyone who writes a cheque for their offering should make it payable to St. John’s United Church. Even though the church is closed due to COVID, you can still drop your offering cheque in the mail slot.
For the moment there will be no change for people who use PAR*.
.
*Pre-authorized remittance (PAR) is a way to donate to the church through automatic withdrawals from a bank account or charges to a credit card (the latter not recommended as the service fee to the church is higher). Many of our Dorval-Strathmore friends use this easy method and changes can be made anytime. If anyone is interested in signing up or getting more information, please contact Joan LeVasseur at (514) 631-4455 or jblev@ca.inter.net”
