MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Greetings, everyone!
Happy Easter! Okay… don’t read that part until Sunday.
Because first we experience – again, and as if for the first time – the Good Friday story. I know, a lot of people don’t like Good Friday and even try to avoid it. But Easter Sunday makes so much more sense when we share everything that Good Friday means.
Sure, it’s the day we remember Jesus’ crucifixion, but the day allows us to explore so much more than an annual remembrance of an historical event (as important as that was and is). It also marks the end of our spiritual journey of Lent. Everything that we have experienced, our discerning and reflecting, all gets brought to this event. Brought to the cross. In the crucifixion and the burial stories, we are given the opportunity to let go. To be free of the baggage that weighs us down. We bring all of our sadness, our hurt, our own denials and betrayals, and we let them all go. And then, a little lighter, a lot freer, and finally forgiven (by ourselves, because God is ahead of us on that one!), we’re ready to really embrace everything that Easter means.
And then we can shout-out, Happy Easter! And every bit of creation will be shouting along with us. If we’re ready to fully welcome both the Good Friday and the Easter experience, the wonder that is Spring will be more than just a magnificent display of nature at work. It will provide reminders all around us of the gift of God’s love, light, and life. Every green spear piercing the dirt and reaching for the sun, every exploding tree-bud above us, every birdsong, every life-giving drop of rain… all reminders of the gift of abundant stronger- than-death life.
I hope we’ll see you this weekend… in our church home or from your own homes (see the zoom details below for both services). Until then…
Peace,
Rev. Steve
