MINISTER’S MESSAGE

Greetings everyone,
Ah, summer. And my last newsletter message before our summer break. I want to take this time to encourage you to use this season as a chance to reconnect with the Creator and with creation. Whether you are outside feeling the dewy grass between your toes, or sitting on a shaded balcony or porch enjoying the smell of the pines being carried by a soft breeze, or sitting by the window taking-in the colours of the day or the mystery of the night, or in bed letting memories and images fill your being and comfort your soul… this is the time to express gratitude, experience wonder, rediscover peace.

Find words that can help you make this connection. I know I’ve told you before that I always say a blessing each time I plant anything in my garden. Just a few simple, almost silly, words: “Grow little one, grow big and strong. Reach for the sky the whole day long.” I have no idea why those words came to me years ago. And I don’t believe that they make things grow better (well… maybe!). But it helps me connect: connecting with all of life and the wonder of creation, connecting with gratitude for the Creator, connecting with my own spirit.

Even if you just take a moment each day to breathe in and say “thank you”… that is prayer enough.

Here are some words you may want to use as you greet each day. They are adapted from a traditional Celtic blessing.

“I greet the day in the love of my Creator,
in the strength of my Redeemer,
in the power of my Sustainer,
in the fellowship of witnesses from every tribe and nation and culture.

I greet the day united with the sacred three,
in harmony with the sacred one.

Compassion in my heart, gratitude in my thoughts,
generosity in my deeds, justice as my passion.
I greet today carrying God’s love into the hurting world.”

Have a blessed summer. See you in August!

Peace,
Rev. Steve
