This morning we are happy to welcome Andrew Webster to our church family. Although Drew is transferring his membership from Mountainside United in Westmount, his roots lie at Westmount Park United. He still has a trowel, passed on to him from his grandmother, that was used to lay the cornerstone for Westmount Park United in 1929! Drew has just recently retired (at the age of 88) from Webster & Sons, his family-owned business.

SUNDAE SOCIAL: JUNE 11
For a delicious summer treat, we are all are invited to stay following the service this Sunday, June 11th, for a Sunday Sundae Social. We will be treated to ice cream and fresh strawberries with all the toppings, and some good conversation and fellowship to go with. Mark your calendar!

Dr. Jan Krejcar has been serving as our Interim Director of Music for this year, and he will be finishing his term at the end of June. A search committee, formed early in the spring, has now completed its work. We are very pleased to announce Dr. Gohar Manvelyan as our new Director of Music, beginning in September. Gohar is a gifted musician who began studying as a young child in her native Armenia. She has had a distinguished career as a pianist and choral conductor, and holds several graduate degrees in piano performance and and choral conducting, including a Doctorate in Choral Conducting from McGill University in 2019. Gohar is familiar to some of us as the accompanist for St. Edward the Confessor. We thank the search committee for their work, and we are excited to have Gohar and her music with us in the fall.

From our Spring Thing Chair, Dale Palin: My friend Carol Murgatroyd spent hours setting up the jewellery section for Spring Thing. In sorting through the donated pieces, she found an 18k gold necklace that she felt was worth more than we could get at the sale. Carol took it to Montreal Stamps & Coins, downtown and sold the necklace to them for $1600. Carol arrived at my door with 16 crisp $100 bills! This sale now brings Jewellery’s total sales to $2113.55, and makes jewellery’s revenue higher than Books, Better Buys and Plants (not that we’re competitive or anything!) With additional sales of other items, and $150 donation, that brings the grand total for the 2023 Spring Thing to $14,574. And there still is a computer desk that we hope to sell. Dale Editor’s note: Thanks also to Chris Palin (aka Stu of Stu’s Sports) who has been posting and selling golf clubs left over after the sale. Chris has made an additional $300 for Spring Thing. Wow!
