MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Rev. Steve Gillam
Greetings, everyone.
Important news: I have switched from shorts and flip flops to long pants and shoes. Several people have been startled. But, do not be alarmed. Like shorter days, cooler nights, and the brilliant colours, the covering of my knees and toes is just another sign of the changing season.
Okay. That was a bit silly. But I’d like to talk about moving into Autumn, and how we deal with change. Sometimes, we consider “change” a four-letter word. (Isn’t it funny that we say that? “Love” and “cake” are four-letter words… Anyway…) Change throws us off. Change disturbs us. Already I’m hearing people complaining about how dark it’s getting; how cold it is at night. And soon our discussions of the beautiful fall leaves will turn to grumbling about the mess that needs to be raked.
So, my message this week is this: let your spirit find joy in expressing gratitude. Embrace the change, and the opportunity to slow down and reflect. Find one thing each day in the wonder and beauty of creation that calls you to feel joy, peace, wonder, gratefulness. Be kind to nature. And in doing so, be kind to yourself. Heal your spirit.
“Be glad, fields, and everything in you! The trees in the woods will shout for joy!” (Psalm 96:12 GNV)
Peace.
Rev. Steve

St. Edward the Confessor invites us to join in their annual blessing of the pets on September 30, at 10:00 a.m., on the back lawn of the church. This is a time to bless and give thanks for our special animal companions.
