jingle bell
bazaar 2023

The Jingle Bell Bazaar was a festive, happy occasion last Saturday. There was a mouth-watering array of baked treats for sale, wonderful Christmas treasures and trinkets, and books of all description. There were sublime holiday fashions in the Boutique, and a delicious lunch served by the incomparable waiters of St. Edward. There was laughter and conversation, old friendships renewed and new ones forged. It was a real community event, alive with the Spirit. And it also raised some welcome funds to support the work of the church. For more photos, see Lakeshore Trinity’s Facebook page at: LTUC Facebook

Thanks to all the busy elves who helped to bring it together.

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE:
LGBTQ2+ MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES

The West Island LGBTQ2+ Centre was created as an outreach ministry of Beaconsfield United Church in 2011, to provide a safe space for LGBTQ2+ individuals to explore their sexuality and gender identities. Since then it has grown, and offers an ever expanding slate of services to the LGBTQ2+ community, including support and social groups for youth, young adults, seniors, parents, and trans people.

The Centre works in conjunction with the Beaconsfield United Church supporting migrant and refugee populations. Given that LGBTQ2+ individuals often face severe discrimination and repression in their home countries, they represent a sizeable proportion of the migrants and refugees who find their way to Canada.

With the onset of colder weather, the Centre has been appealing for donations of winter clothing for these vulnerable newcomers to Canada. Our Balcony Boutique has lately been well supplied with warm coats and winter wear, thanks to the generosity of people here at Lakeshore Trinity. Last week, Doris McConnell and Joan Pitcairn (bless them!) selected and packed up a dozen large bags of good, clean cold weather clothing. On Monday morning, these were delivered to the West Island LGBTQ2+ Centre, where they were gratefully received by Director, David Hawkins.
