MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Rev. Steve Gillam

The final show of “A Dark & Stormy Knight” is happening this weekend. Our first murder mystery dinner show here at Lakeshore Trinity! So, I want to take this moment to thank everyone who helped make this such a success.

Someone recently referred to it as my show. They meant it kindly, and I thank them. But this show only happened because of the talents, skills, hard work, and dedication of a whole lot of people. I used to have a sign in my office that read, “Who washed the dishes at the Last Supper?” It always reminded me of all of the people involved in any good story, especially those unsung heroes behind the scene. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all the costume makers, the bakers and cooks, the servers, the dish washers, the setter-uppers and cleaner-uppers, and all of you who promoted, supported, laughed, and encouraged.

There are a few on whom I would like to shine the spotlight. First and foremost, our office administrator Lisa O’Brien. Whether cleaning-up my messy script typing, taking on the role of House Manager, using her charm and organizational skills running the Box Office, having fun with me making props, posters, and more, as well being a great sounding board, Lisa makes the whole adventure seem possible every step of the way.

And, a huge shout-out to the Kitchen Crew, especially Fiona Wardrop, Jane Giffen, Joan Schrag, and Pam Fraser. They were nervous about taking on this Herculean task, but they sparkled brilliantly. I think there was more laughter in the kitchen than in the theatre at times! Brava!!

Also, my deepest thanks to our amazing cast. With the exception of one cast member, I’ve worked with all of these superstars many times, on these murder mystery shows as well as other productions. They are not only talented, but they are such a joy to work with. Only four of the ten cast members are part of our LTUC church family… and yet they freely give of their time to be part of this fundraiser. Thanks, so much, my friends.

Finally, a round of applause for Nolan McRobbie, our “Gerbil”. This was Nolan’s first show, and he knocked it out of the park. It’s not easy to join a group of people who have worked together so many times – especially, perhaps, at 13 – but he held his own and quickly became part of the troupe.

Mystic and medieval philosopher Meister Eckhart once said, “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” So, I not only thank you all, I thank God for you.

Peace.
Rev. Steve

OUR POLICY ON ALCOHOL IN THE CHURCH
We are beginning the process of determining what our policy, as Lakeshore Trinity United Church, will be with regards to alcohol consumption in our building. As has been noted before, both congregations were “dry” for a long time, but Dorval-Strathmore voted to drop this restriction many years ago. St. John’s remained alcohol-free. It is now time, as a new congregation, that we decide on a policy.

A survey questionnaire is being distributed to seek out the opinions and feelings of our members on this issue. This information will be used to help facilitate a discussion with the congregation following the service on Sunday, May 5, 2024. We encourage as many members as possible to join us for this important meeting. If you have not received a copy of the survey, and would like one, or would prefer a paper copy, please contact Lisa at the church office (Email: lakeshoretrinityunited@gmail.com, Tel: 514-697-6459).
We pray to go forward with God’s guidance and blessing.
