MINISTER’S MESSAGE

Rev. Steve Gillam

Welcome back, beloved!

As we move out of summer, we get ready for everything that this next season brings us. Busier schedules, switching from salads to soups and stews, becoming reacquainted with favourite sweaters. Ahhh. It is a season that could be defined with the word Change.

I was thinking this week about the duality of this season: it even has two names, Fall and Autumn. Perhaps work/school/activities fill our days and evenings, but it also reconnects us to friends and community. Days get shorter, but the darkness gives us more time to appreciate the stars. Leaves put on a magnificent show, and then they’re gone.

So, let’s embrace that. This Sunday we’ll be reflecting on how our lives often have us living both sides of the coin at the same time. Faith and doubt. Love and hate. Fear and hope. While it might feel stressful and confusing, perhaps this season can teach us to be present in the duality. And wherever we are, whatever we are experiencing, we know that God is right there with us.

See you Sunday. Or if not, we hope to see you soon.

Blessings.

Rev. Steve

FUNDSCRIP IS COMING TO LAKESHORE TRINITY
fundscrip

Fundscrip is back! Dorval-Strathmore participated in FundScrip fundraising for many years, as did St. John’s, some years ago. Now it is coming to Lakeshore Trinity. Fundscrip is a Canada-wide fundraising program in which supporters (our congregation members) pay for their everyday shopping (i.e., groceries, gas, gifts and household items) with gift cards bought from FundScrip. A percentage of the cards purchased is then donated to LTUC. There is no cost to us, we just reap the benefits. You simply order your gift cards and when you shop, pay for your purchases with the cards. It’s that easy. There are over 300 Canadian retailers, such as Metro, Indigo, Loblaws, Tim Hortons, Ultramar, Esso, Shell, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Starbucks and more. More details coming soon.

FOOD COLLECTIONS

Doris McConnell thanks those who have continued to supply our collection bins so well over the summer. Rod and Lyne Troy took a large load to St. Columba House at the end of August. The next delivery will go to Dorval Community Aid. There is still a need for food and school supplies. Back-to-school is a challenging time for those who struggle with food insecurity. Our thanks again for your ongoing support.

CORO VIVO CHOIR: AN INVITATION
coro vivo

From our Director of Music, Dr. Gohar Manvelyan:

Coro Vivo is a choir that I am conducting that is looking for new choristers in all sections. We rehearse at:

  • All Saints by the Lake Church, 865, Avenue Lakeshore in Dorval,
  • Monday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
  • We are holding two open house rehearsals: on September 16th and on September 23rd for anyone who would like to come and check us out.

We will be giving our Christmas concert at the beginning of December. The ability to read music is helpful but not necessary as I provide audio tracks to listen to in between rehearsals for those who need it.

For more information, please contact Gohar at 514-884-0702 or Leslie at 514-631-4999.
