MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Rev. Steve Gillam
Greetings, everyone.
In our most recent newsletter I expressed my gratitude for the many women who have inspired, taught, and supported me along my ministry journey. This week, a nod to the men.
I believe that we learn to be our best selves by witnessing the people around us. Whether or not they are teachers, officially, the way they live their lives helps us understand how to be the best we can be. As a young man…and still, as a not-so-young man…I have always been grateful for the men I have known or met who helped me discover what it is to be a man.
There have been many (mostly within church families) who have been older than me. Of course, I’m older now than some of them. But they have been men of certain generations who have seen the world around them change quickly. How and who they were expected to be changed quickly as well. Learning from their strength, courage, and compassion has been (and continues to be) a blessing.
On the other side of the scale, it is inspiring to watch men of younger generations reinvent their roles as men in families and in the world. It is so joyful to see how younger men have become nurturing and attentive fathers. When I was in my early thirties, I led a small theatre company. I remember a man, my age, who was a father of two small girls. He once announced that he was unable to attend an upcoming rehearsal because he had to baby-sit. We pointed out that, in his case, it was called parenting. God bless young dads who are changing the world.
So, brothers of the faith family, I thank you for everything we have learned through our mistakes, our daring choices, and our willingness to be open to the mysterious and compassionate workings of the Spirit.
I hope you all will take some time to gratefully reflect on the many people – family, friends, and strangers – who have been an influential part of your life journey.
Blessings.
Rev. Steve

FOOD COLLECTIONS
Thanks to Rod and Lyne Troy who recently drove a carload of food from our collection bins to Saint Columba House. The next delivery will go to Dorval Community Care. Doris McConnell notes that gift cards to grocery stores or restaurants are sometimes donated to the food collection bins, and that these are greatly appreciated at the food banks we support. Thank you, as always to our generous and thoughtful donors.
FUNDSCRIP
Lynne Lesiak reports:
We are doing great with Fundscrip. A lot of people are participating and ordering gift cards. You pay for everyday shopping (i.e., groceries, gas, gifts, etc.) with gift cards bought from FundScrip. A percentage of the cards purchased is donated to LTUC, with no cost to us. Simply order your gift cards and use them to pay for your purchases when you shop. Since September we have raised over $250.
To order, or for more information, please see Lynne after church on Sunday or email her at mark.lesiak@sympatico.ca
Thank you for your support.
