REV. STEVE’S FINAL MINISTER’S MESSAGE

Greetings, everyone.

Now that my last sermon is preached, and we’ve said our good-byes, I can finally tell you what I really think of you…

(Awkward pause…)

You are awesome. Like, really. Loving and brilliant, caring and devoted. Individually, you are some very special people. Together, you are quite something.

I am so grateful to have shared this time with you, and grateful to have been part of your ministry in this community.

Thank you…

for a great send-off last Sunday;
for your generosity, kind words, and best wishes;
for welcoming me into your homes and into your lives;
for indulging me and my weird ideas;
for teaching me, and inspiring me;
for being such great role-models for retirement;
for bringing Glenn and me into this special family.

We’ll continue to follow and celebrate your story through Happenings, and we’ll let you know what we are up to. For now, it’s summer at the cottage, then a move to Brockville.

May God continue to bless you and yours.

Peace.

Rev. Steve

100TH ANNIVERSARY: UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA

The Anniversary gathering at Lakeshore Trinity on June 8th was a glorious, joyous affirmation of 100 years of the United Church of Canada. Nearly 300 people filled the pews and spilled over into extra chairs at the back. They came from the 10 churches of our West-Island-and-Beyond Cluster to worship and sing and celebrate. The choir of over 30 voices was jubilant, much of the music arranged by Michael Woytiuk from Merging Waters United, who grew up right here in St. John’s. After the service most stayed for pot-luck lunch, the tables in the hallway laden with sandwiches and salads, delicious home baked sweets, and gallons of lemonade. The South Wing and the Book Nook, and the lawn outside were alive with conversation and laughter. The following week, we received a note from Rosalie from St. Genny’s, who wrote:

“The Pentecost service was one of the most joyful and meaningful I have attended. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to create it. Blessings!”

Happy Anniversary to us all!

 A CELEBRATION OF REV. STEVE GILLAMA

On June 15th, we marked Rev. Steve’s final service with us before his retirement. We celebrated Steve’s long and rich association with Dorval Strathmore United and then with the merged congregation of Lakeshore Trinity. Afterward, we all ate pizza and cake in the South Wing. We will surely miss Steve! But we are wiser and stronger for our relationship with him. He has made us think, he has made us laugh, he has taught us to “colour outside the lines”.

Farewell and Godspeed, Steve and Glenn! Go with joy and faith and hope into this new chapter of your lives. Go with our thanks and our love and our blessings.

Your friends at Lakeshore Trinity United Church
