SOME REMINDERS:
The blessing of the pets, Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Rev. Steve Gillam and Father Mike Shaw.
This Sunday, October 2nd is Happy Hat Sunday, an opportunity to make a special offering to the United Church Mission and Service Fund. Welcome back to this long standing Dorval-Strathmore tradition! And don’t forget to bring some spare change.
This Sunday, October 2nd is also Worldwide Communion Sunday. Those joining the service online are encouraged to have your own communion elements ready.
WHERE OUR FOOD COLLECTIONS GO
Here at Lakeshore Trinity, we collect food donations in support of three different local organizations. Happenings is looking at where these contributions go. This week: On Rock Community Services.
When the CAC food bank that operated out of St. John’s United closed, its clients were referred to On Rock Community Services.
Pam and Jack Fraser are faithful and enthusiastic Tuesday volunteers at the On Rock Food Bank, located on Gouin Blvd. in Pierrefonds. They are part of a team packing rows of boxes with healthy nutritious food. Pam says that On Rock distributes food baskets to about 300 West Island families every week. For those who can’t come to the centre, On Rock operates a delivery service. Donations to the food bank come from individuals, businesses, food drives and churches like ours, and also from local farmers who bring fresh produce and eggs.
On Rock reaches out to families struggling with food insecurity in other ways as well:
the lunch program provides healthy lunches for kids who can’t afford to bring a lunch to school.
Thriftit, On Rock’s thrift store with a trendy boutique feel, offers a sustainable and affordable way to shop.
Resto Le Spot restaurant operates on a “pay what you can” model. It also offers an opportunity to “spot it forward”, where customers can pay it forward to others in need. Le Spot has a funky motorcycle décor that gives it a special flair.
On Rock is always ready to welcome new volunteers. For more information, check out the website at: https://onrock.org/.
Or talk to Jack and Pam!
Here are some suggestions for pantry items that On Rock regularly includes in the food baskets:
