MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Rev. Steve Gillam
Greetings, everyone.
Short message this week: think Kindness.
Sunday, November 13th is World Kindness Day. Yes, there is such a thing. It is sponsored by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. And yes, there is such a thing. The Foundation’s goal is to encourage people to choose kindness over violence, compassion over cruelty, action over indifference. Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? But it might very well be something we forget about.
It’s so easy to get caught in the rut of complaining or focusing on the negatives. We may do that so often that it becomes our “norm”… our first response to something or someone. Sure, we are kind. We share random acts of kindness with others in so many ways. But does it feel like something we have to remember? Do we have to remind ourselves to make an effort to be kind? Perhaps practising it more often, making it our first response, would help us create a new norm in our lives. An attitude where kindness is our first response.
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning how to dance in the rain. Okay… I didn’t make that up. Read it somewhere. But I’m going to write it down. Stick it on my desk. Or on my fridge. Bathroom mirror? Dashboard? Somewhere that will remind me to refocus. For my spiritual/mental/physical health, for the well-being of others, for God’s world.
That’s it: think kindness. And then do kindness.
Peace.
Rev. Steve

I HATE WAITING
Our sister congregation of St. Edward the Confessor has invited us to join them in an advent retreat: a reflective look at waiting time, patience, and hope. The retreat takes place over zoom, on two Saturday afternoons: November 27th, and December 3rd, 1:00pm – 4:00pm. There is a small cost. A sign-up sheet will be at the church on Sunday for anyone interested.
CANTABILE CONCERT
We are invited to hear Sheila Lindsay in a Christmas concert by Cantabile Chorale, Sunday November 27, at 3:30pm, at Èglise Ste. Geneviève. Sheila has long shared her gift and love of singing with Cantabile and with our own choir. We are blessed.
Bon Concert, Sheila!
