MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Rev. Steve Gillam

Greetings, everyone.

This Friday, March 1st is World Day of Prayer. For nearly 100 years, Christians all over the world have gathered in local congregations on the first Friday in March to pray for the world and its inhabitants, particularly women and children living in places of war, famine, and oppression. Christians in over 150 countries, speaking in over 90 languages, pray for peace and justice in our hurting world.

It is also a time to learn more about each other… to share stories and learnings and hopes and dreams. The more we learn about others, the more we learn about ourselves and our place in this global tapestry, rich in colour and song, strong in love and hope.

Each year, worship material is prepared by a committee from a different country. This year’s resource comes from the women of Palestine… prepared a while ago, but very timely. The theme is based on Ephesians: I beg you, bear with one another in love.

Check out the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada at wicc.org for more information.

On Friday, or any time, take a moment in prayer to connect with our global family. Give thanks for diversity (race, language, culture, food, and more), and pray especially for those in places of war, natural disaster, oppression, and injustice. Pray for peace for all.

May God bless the world, and continue to bless us on our Lenten journeys.

Peace.
Rev. Steve

PHONE CHAIN
We are setting up a phone chain to be used if our worship service has to be cancelled on short notice. Last March we had to cancel the Good Friday service because of a power failure. We sent notices of the cancellation by email but as a lot of people were without power, this wasn’t very successful. We are hoping for no major March storms this year, but we would like a swift, reliable way to contact people, if we do need to cancel our service.

If you would like your name added to the phone list, or if you are willing to make calls as part of the phone chain, please send your name and phone number to Dale Palin at palin@rppr.com or 514-943-4613.

FOOD COLLECTIONS
The collection bins at the church have been filling up regularly. Thank you to our faithful donors. The last collection was taken to West Island Mission. The next delivery will go to Saint Columba House. There are also some knitted items in the office which will be taken to Saint Columba House.

Requests at the food banks are growing, your generosity is deeply appreciated.

WICA COMMUNITY APARTMENT APPEAL
The West Island Citizen Advocacy Community Apartment Program (CAP) is looking for some household items to help set up a new client in an apartment. Specifically, they need a single bed mattress, a pillow, and curtains for a bedroom window approximately 5 feet wide. If you have any of these items to donate, please contact Krystyna Tipakova at WICA by email at: ktipakova@pcbo-wica.com, or by phone at: (514) 694-5850 x29.

The CAP program provides housing and daily living support for adults living with mental health issues in the West Island. Lakeshore Trinity supports one of these apartments. Joan Murray, who volunteers with the program would welcome an assistant. If you are able to help sustain this valuable service in our community, speak to Joan at: 514-631-8369.
