MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Rev. Steve Gillam

Greetings, everyone.

As I’m writing this, it’s Pi Day. (And most of us are thinking “what?”) In the world of mathematics, Pi represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The circumference (around the outside edge of any circle) is a little more than three times its width. Brains larger than mine have decided on 3.14 times. And that’s just the popular number: the number has been calculated to over 50 trillion digits beyond the decimal point. This number, 3.14, was given the name of the Greek letter “pi”.

Why am I talking about this? Well, as I said, it is Pi Day. 3.14. March 14th. And apparently, on March 14th, mathematicians and fans get together to discuss math and eat – you guessed it – pie. Happy Pi Day!

Again I might ask, why am I talking about this?! Well, I was thinking… Jesus used things around him (like a mustard seed, a fig tree, water) to remind people of God’s love and presence. Saint Patrick’s Day is coming up… Patrick used a common leaf, the three-leaved shamrock, to talk to others about God’s presence expressed in the Trinity: three expressions of one leaf. So, maybe I can do the same today.

Pi is about the relationship between the circumference and the diameter. A relationship that is expressed by pi. And it applies to all circles. Our lives, and the lives of all living things, is about our relationship with God… a God who embraces and surrounds and supports us in our living. And it is God’s love that helps us express that relationship; a love that is known and yet infinite, to the trillionth degree and beyond.

So, as we move into this last stretch of our Lenten journey that will take us first through Good Friday, perhaps we can take a moment to stop and rest… to rejoice and wonder… to laugh and love. Celebrate the relationship we have with the One who is abundant and infinite Love. And eat some pie. Share food, hospitality, friendship, and blessings.

Journey on, God’s beloved.

Peace.
Rev. Steve

NEWS FROM THE ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
Charyl Hyndman is stepping down from her position as Chair of our Ministry and Personnel Committee. We offer our sincere thanks to Charyl for her many years of faithful service, on the Council at Dorval-Strathmore, through the merger process, and continuing here at Lakeshore Trinity.

We are happy to welcome Paul Van Esbroeck to the Council of Ministries as the new chair of Ministry and Personnel. Paul joined us in the spring of 2019. You may have noticed him singing in the bass section of the choir, or sorting and selling books at the Christmas and Spring sales. He has recently retired after a 33-year career with CAE Inc, Canadian manufacturer of flight simulators.

A heartfelt thank you to our technical wizards, Bethan Wardrop and Brandon Borodach, who navigated the challenges of a congregational meeting conducted both live and on zoom. Your expertise and ingenuity are greatly appreciated!

Coming Up Soon: April 6, 13, 20, and 27.

Our murder mystery dinner show is coming up in April. Lots of people are hard at work to make this event a big success. You can do your part by continuing to spread the word and help sell tickets. Seats are quickly filling-up (only about 20% of seats left), but remember… it’s a fundraiser, so it would be great if you could help us completely sell out! Sneak peeks at the rehearsals indicate a highly enjoyable evening coming our way!

Tickets are available only in advance, through the church office, by phone: 514-697-6459, or email: lakeshoretrinityunited@gmail.com

FEEDING PEOPLE FROM OUR KITCHEN
Our kitchen at Lakeshore Trinity is an active place during the week. Most people are aware of the Meal-On-Wheels program, which sees hot meals prepared and delivered to about 30 local seniors every Tuesday and Thursday.

But that’s not all. Every Monday afternoon, volunteer teams of cooks use the kitchen to prepare hot nourishing food for 50 residents of the Ricochet Shelter in North Pierrefonds. The Shelter Meal Program was originally an initiative of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Thomas à Becket Parish, in response to the growing issue of food insecurity in the community, but the program has been expanding. Recently St. Edward the Confessor has become more actively involved. They have undertaken to contribute two more teams of cooks, aiming to provide a second weekly meal from our kitchen. The program is funded through parishioner donations dedicated to this ministry, but any contributions are welcomed and appreciated. To find out more, you may contact Brenda Leigh of St. Edward’s at: brendaleigh44@gmail.com

shelter meals
Shelter Meal cooks, Denise, Mike, Nathalie and Irene, preparing their creamy sausage-pasta casserole with vegetables and cheese on March 4th. A big tray of frosted cupcakes made the sweet finish. Each team works creatively with a tight budget. They search the grocery store flyers and develop menus based on the specials of the week. Then they shop, cook, and deliver the food to the shelter.

Nathalie reported later: “We dropped off our casseroles and desserts to Ricochet around 4:45 and were greeted with: ‘Can we help you unload?’ ‘Thank you so much!’ ‘God bless you!’. The clients, as well as the staff, are greatly appreciative of what we do. They don’t have a stove on the premises, so the meals we provide are so nourishing to them both physically and mentally.”
